Have you ever heard of “FUNORI” (Glue plants)?

“FUNORI” (Glue plants) is red algae that grows on rocks on the seashore and an interesting seaweed, which is used for various purposes in "clothing, food, and housing".

The main production areas of seaweed “FUNORI” are Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Kagoshima, Hokkaido, Aomori etc. and all over Japan. But the catch amount is not as large as that of kelp or wakame seaweeds.

“FUNORI” is characterized by its reddish-purple color and sticky surface. And it prefers clean water because it is open to the influences of the water environment.

The harvest of Japanese products has been decreasing year by year due to global warming. Instead, recently Korean products are often used.

Edible “FUNORI” can be used in salads, and miso soup, or in vinegared dishes you can enjoy its crunchy texture. Dried “FUNORI” is also used to make Hegi-soba (buckwheat noodles), which has a smooth texture and elasticity.

“FUNORI” miso soup with smell of the sea is very popular! Please try it.

In addition to food, “FUNORI” is also used for gluing cloth, shampoo, and preserve and restore ceilings because of the adhesive power of the “FUNORI” mucus. It is also used in health food supplements because it is rich in sea minerals and plant fiber.

We are importing and selling “FUNORI” from Korea on a trial basis to make up for the shortage of “FUNORI” in Japan. We hope you will be interested in the variety of seaweeds available.
